Mayor Sarno & Springfield Fire Department join Vested Interest in K9’s, Inc. for Donation Announcement

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno joined with the Springfield Fire Department today along with Lisa King, a volunteer with Vested Interest in K9’s Inc. to announce that Springfield Arson and Bomb Squad K9 Gregg has received a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. Joining from the Fire Department today were Captain Drew Piemonte, Deputy Chief Michael Hess, Deputy Chief David Wells, Analyst Darcy Borecki, and K9 Gregg.

K9 Gregg’s vest was sponsored by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. and embroidered with the sentiment “In memory of K9 Hobbs, Des Moines, IA - EOW 12-12-23”. K9 Gregg’s vest is U.S. made, custom fitted, and National Institution Justice (NIJ) certified. Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a 501c(3) charity whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. They have provided over 5,514 vets to K9s since its inception.

Mayor Sarno states, “A special thank you to Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. for sponsoring the new body armor for Springfield Arson and Bomb Squad K9 Gregg. With K9 Gregg now having this potentially lifesaving protection, our four-legged fire fighter is better equipped to help preform live saving rescues, and assisting our brave and dedicated firefighters. K9 Gregg – such a beautiful dog – did a great job today at our press conference too.”
